'House of Lies' Season 3 premiere recap: Marty's all alone with his own company

After the blowout between Marty ( Don Cheadle) and Clyde ( Ben Schwartz) that brought Season 2 to an end, it's no surprise that the entire landscape of "House of Lies" has changed. The pod caved in on itself and the group has scattered.

While Jeannie ( Kristen Bell) and Doug ( Josh Lawson) have remained with Galweather, starting a new pod, Marty has launched his own company and Clyde is off working with Monica ( Dawn Olivieri).

Whether they'll admit it or not, each of the former pod members is miserable with their new coworkers and long for the days of old. Sadly, the only one willing to admit it is Doug and he won't shut up about it. Marty hides his feelings about it the best, though his family can see through the act.

No one hates how things ended up more than Clyde, who was king of the mountain at the close of Season 2, cutting Marty down to size. What he's learned since then is that working for Monica is pretty much the worst possible thing imaginable. He can't even convince the woman in his pod to sleep with him, because she's trying to impress the boss.

Though the episode begins with Marty and his employees in China, chasing an organic supermarket job, there's not much in the way of business in the episode, but rather catching viewers up on what's been going on since things were left off. Luckily, there's still enough time for Marty to steal one of Monica's clients and hand deliver it to Jeannie. She's still on the fence about trusting him, though.

The premiere introduces several new players, with three pods rather than one, but that core group of four is missed. The one scene of Clyde, Jeannie and Doug feels like the band got back together without a lead singer. It works for now, but that'll only last so long.

There wasn't much on the home life front for Marty in the premiere, other than learning Roscoe ( Donis Leonard Jr.) is going out for the basketball team at first. No sign of his new girlfriend yet.
