Krysta Rodriguez ("Smash"), who was to play the best friend of the main character (Greta Gerwig), is leaving the pilot. Deadline reports the character, a successful and hard-partying woman, is going through some changes following a table read of the pilot script. As a result, the show will look for a different actress to play her.

Emily Spivey ("Up All Night") and "HIMYM" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas wrote the "How I Met Your Dad" script. It's a spiritual companion to/not-quite-spinoff of "How I Met Your Mother," featuring an older version of Gerwig's character telling her kids the story that led her to their father. Drew Tarver, Nicholas D'Agosto and Andrew Santino.

"HIMYM" veteran Rob Greenberg is set to direct the pilot, stepping in for Pam Fryman, who had to bow out due to a family emergency. She remains an executive producer.
