Howard Stern: Britney Spears is going to be a 'trainwreck' on 'The X Factor'
"I can't imagine," he says of Britney. "Listen, I think we're going to tune in to see if she can function through the thing. As far as any real criticism, I think Simon and LA Reid will do that. Britney's gonna stand there, eat a lollipop, wear sexy outfits. She's gonna sit there like J.Lo and say, 'You're wonderful, you're great, can I get a perfume endorsement out of this?' I'll tune in to see what kind of trainwreck she is, definitely."
But turning to his new judging gig, Stern says, "'America's Got Talent' is the perfect fit for me. For me to sit there and just judge music acts, it's getting a little tired. We haven't had a big superstar out of that in a while."
"What I like about the uniqueness of 'America's Got Talent' is it's true Vaudeville," Stern continues. "There was a mentalist, a juggler, dancers, a marching band. Unbelievable. You think I'd like a marching band? They are absolutely spectacular. We have this variety show and it suits me. It excites me to be a part of this."
He also says he'll be forthcoming as a mentor and will offer real advice to the artists.
"If a guy is struggling on 'America's Got Talent' and he wants to know why he's not winning ... I think I would be upfront enough with him," says Stern. "Also, I've been in the business so long ... the reason I lasted is I worked hard and I thought every minute about my audience and what I could do to entertain them."
But Stern does crack, "One of the things about being on 'America's Got Talent' that is absolutely scary to me is that people have to look at my face. This is a face made for radio.
Stern premieres Monday, May 14 on "America's Got Talent" at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Are you getting excited?
