Ian McKellen to play Sherlock Holmes in Bill Condon's 'A Slight Trick of the Mind'
Sherlock Holmes is being reintroduced to our pop culture once again. Following the success stories of Benedict Cumberbatch in "Sherlock," Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes" and its sequel, and Jonny Lee Miller in "Elementary," Ian McKellen will be taking up the role in the new Bill Condon film "A Slight Trick of the Mind."
The movie, based on the novel of the same name by Mitch Cullin, will follow McKellen as a retired Sherlock Holmes who's haunted by a case he couldn't solve 50 years before. This movie will subvert the typical Sherlock formula, as the character finds himself without his trusty sidekick Watson and with his "legendary mental powers on the wane." Sherlock's housekeeper and her amateur-sleuth of a son are the other main characters in the story.
"A Slight Trick of the Mind" is set to start filming in April. No other casting has been announced. The screenplay is being adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher. No release date has been set. As for that above amazing photo, find out more information about where it came from at Nerdist.
