Idris Elba hospitalized from asthma attack before Nelson Mandela biopic premiere
Idris Elba had to be rushed to the hospital after suffering from an asthma attack on the way to South Africa to promote his new Nelson Mandela biopic "Mandela: A Long Watch to Freedom."
The Daily Mail reports the "Luther" star suffered the attack while on an airplane. He was rushed to a hospital in the United Kingdom and did not make it to the South African red carpet or press conference he was planned to appear at.
"Idris is in hospital after an asthma attack on the plane last night," "Mandela" producer Anant Singh told reporters at the conference. He added that he hopes Elba will have recovered enough to attend the movie's premiere on Nov. 3 in Johannesburg.
"Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" will premiere in the US to limited release on Nov. 29 after having made the rounds at an array of film festivals. It is slated to premiere in the UK on Jan. 3, 2014.
