Independent Spirit Awards 2012 winners list: 'The Artist' does it again

the-artist-BAFT-noms.jpg"You're never really independent; you need some people," says director Michael Hazanavicius while accepting his Best Director award for his recreation of a silent film, "The Artist."

His movie had a winning run at Saturday's (Feb. 25) Independent Spirit Awards where it was matched up against the likes of George Clooney's "The Descendants" for top honors. Although he wasn't on hand to accept the award, "The Artist's" Jean Dujardin also picked up the Best Actor honors. The movie also scored a win for Best Cinematography and, of course, Best Feature Film.

On her fifth attempt at an Independent Spirit win, Michelle Williams walked away with the Best Actress honors for "My Week with Marilyn." "The Descendents" did eke out wins in two categories: Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Female for Shailene Woodley.
