'Iron Man 3': A Pepper Potts sex tape was almost a major plot point

At one point in the script-writing process for "Iron Man 3," Pepper Potts' storyline almost got a lot less innocent. It's no secret that Gwyneth Paltrow's character had something of a history with Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian, but early on a draft had them sleeping together. Even worse, Killian used their tryst as blackmail and recorded a secret sex tape that he revealed in ... Home Depot. Yes, really.

"In the second draft, Pepper slept with Killian because he was so [phenomenally] enhanced with Extremis that she couldn't resist him. Also, she was angry at Tony. Then he makes a sex tape and broadcasts it in Home Depot!" director and co-writer Shane Black tells Empire.

Fellow co-writer Drew Pearce adds, "Wow, that seems audacious even by our standards. It was definitely ground breaking."

Fortunately that storyline was canned and Pepper was able to resist Killian's advances, leaving her and Tony Stark as happy as ever by the end of the film. Sleeping with the enemy seems way too out of character for Pepper, so it's definitely a good thing this plot point was ditched. "Iron Man 3" recently took the record for second-highest opening weekend ever and has currently grossed $679 million worldwide.
