Is ABC having trouble casting women for 'The Bachelor'?

When ABC announced the next man to take up "The Bachelor" moniker would be Juan Pablo Galavis, many thought women would be lining up for the chance to win the good-looking soccer player's heart after he was dumped by "The Bachelorette's" Desiree Hartsock. But it seems as if ABC might be having a harder time than usual finding a group of women to compete next season ... if the recent casting announcement the network sent out is any indication.

Here is the casting announcement, released on Thursday (August 8), word-for-word (typos included):

"Congrats to Juan Pablo on being named the new Bachelor! And good news, ladies: The search continues for America's most eligible women, as the popular relationship show preparing for its 18th season!

Do you have the charm, style, class and charisma to become America's next leading lady? Do you want to meet Juan Pablo for all the right reasons? Are you dreaming of being the last woman standing at the most. dramatic. rose. ceremony. ever?

When it comes to casting for "The Bachelor," it's interesting that ABC would need any extra publicity for one of their most-buzzed-about contestants ... especially when the reactions to Juan Pablo's announcement were off-the-charts insane. Perhaps the show isn't getting enough of the "good" applicants -- a.k.a. women who will act legitimately crazy in order to win, thus creating drama which equals ratings.

Or maybe they have been getting too many of those kinds of outrageous contestants and have yet to find any normal women who are just crazy enough to want to be on the show anymore. Being a contestant on "The Bachelor"/"The Bachelorette" is guaranteed to turn your life upside down at this point.

What do you think of the recent casting announcement? Is ABC hard-up for legitimate contestants, or are they just trying to get as many applicants as possible in order to find the greatest women for Juan Pablo? Hit the comments with your thoughts/predictions, and if it tickles your fancy, apply to be on "The Bachelor" yourself!
