Stephen Colbert for Senate ... it has a nice ring to it. At least someone seems to think so, as a Colbert for Senate account popped up on twitter immediately following the news of Sen. Jim DeMint's impending departure from the South Carolina State Senate.
Colbert says he is just waiting for a call from Gov. Nikki Haley, who is responsible for appointing DeMint's successor. The comedian and allegedly wannabe politician -- because, who can tell when he's kidding or not? -- sent a statement to Mother Jones through his publicist.
"Stephen is honored by the groundswell of support from the Palmetto State and looks forward to Governor Haley's call," says the rep.
Colbert took to his show, "The Colbert Report," to urge viewers to tweet Haley in support of his Senate campaign -- which may or may not really exist.
The comedian has previously launched two presidential runs, as well as spearheading two separate Super-PAC organizations.
