If you're like us and wondering if Charlie and The Waitress will ever officially hook up on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," we have a pretty decent spoiler for you courtesy of Charlie Day. Zap2it recently sat down with Day, who portrays "Alway's Sunny's" Charlie Kelly and serves as writer and executive producer on the longrunning FX show, to discuss his role in the upcoming Disney-Pixar prequel "Monsters University."
When asked if his "Always Sunny" character's unrequited love for -- wait, make that obsession with -- The Waitress (played by his real-life wife, Mary Elizabeth Ellis) will ever be consummated, Day gives a pretty solid hint as to what's to come in Season 9.
"I will say this: There is a bit of a fantasy sequence that may be animated, and influenced by some Pixar movies," Day says. "And you may get to see, potentially, what would happen if it worked out. But the reality of the two of them working out, I'm not sure about that." When asked if perhaps that scene will come in the way of a dream sequence, Day responds, "Maybe ... yeah."
The Pixar hat tip won't be the only pop culture cross-over in the show's ninth season. "Always Sunny" star and creator Rob McElhenney confirmed to Zap2it on a recent set visit that "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wrote one of the episodes.
Season 9 of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is currently in production and will air this fall on FX's new channel, FXX. "Monsters University" hits theaters in 3D June 21.
