'Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa' unseats 'Gravity' for box office No. 1
After "Gravity" spent three weekends at the top of the box office, Johnny Knoxville's "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" was the first film to take the No. 1 spot from the space odyssey.
The latest from the "Jackass" crew adds a new twist on the MTV series' winning movie formula. This new film, which stars Knoxville and Jackson Nicoll and was directed by Jeff Tremaine, is a hidden camera comedy that actually has a plot tying its various pranks and stunts together. Audiences clearly were interested, as "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" had the second-biggest opening of all the "Jackass" movies, coming in behind only "Jackass 3-D."
"Gravity," meanwhile, is continuing its incredibly strong run in theaters. After opening to $55.8 million, the flick has gone on to rake in almost $200 million in the United States alone and a total of $364 million worldwide. It still brought in an estimated $20.3 million in its fourth weekend of release, meaning it still placed No. 2 on the weekend's box office chart, and is performing better than any other movie out at the moment.
