James Franco reveals outrageous 'Spring Breakers' Oscar campaign

james-franco-spring-breakers-oscar-campaign-a24-films.jpgEvery awards season, there's an actor whose team concocts the idea for an Oscar campaign that generates buzz for the star that's not always flattering. (Think Melissa Leo's bonkers "Consider" ad for "The Fighter.") This year, that actor is James Franco.

On Monday (Sept. 2), Franco and distributor A24 Films revealed their campaign to score the actor an (admittedly long-shot) best supporting actor nod for his turn in March's "Spring Breakers."

The promo plays on Franco's character, gangsta rapper Alien, showing the actor in costume, alongside his bikini-clad co-stars Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens. In each hand, he holds an Oscar statuette. Oh -- and the tagline? "CONSIDER THIS S***."

Could the unconventional promotional material do the trick for Franco? Only time will tell. An A24 spokesperson tells THR, "James Franco has created a character so indelible it deserves recognition. We are excited to be able to support it with a campaign and know the impact of Alien will last far past this awards season."

Do you think Oscar voters will consider Franco and his "s***" awards season?
