The two-time Oscar winner has signed on to star in a comedy project in development at ABC called "Now What?," Variety reports. It would be her first regular role in a TV series.

The show is about a woman who writes an online screed detailing why she hates her mother (Fonda) -- only to have mom move in with her and insist they work out their issues.

Abby Gewanter ("Pushing Daisies," "Glory Daze") is writing the pilot. Mike Tollin ("One Tree Hill," "Smallville") and Ben Spector are executive producing along with director Scott Ellis ("Weeds").

Fonda has only dabbled in TV over the course of her long career, starring in a couple TV movies and guesting on HBO's "The Newsroom" earlier this year. Her next movie is "The Butler," in which she plays former first lady Nancy Reagan. It's due for release sometime in 2013.
