J.D. Salinger letter for sale on eBay for $50,000

jd-salinger-letter-ebay.jpgAre you a big J.D. Salinger fan? Well, a handwritten note by the reclusive writer can be yours for the low, low price of $50,000. The company selling the note on Ebay calls the autographed item "exceedingly rare" and writes, "Salinger's autograph in any form is scarce and desirable. Because of Salinger's obsession with his privacy, his letters are almost never offered for sale. Lightly creased. Fine condition."

The author of "The Catcher in the Rye" and "Franny and Zooey" writes to his maid, "Dear Mary -- Please make sure all the errands are done before you go on vacation, as I do not want to be bothered with insignificant things. Thank you. J.D. Salinger".

The listing says the note has been authenticated.

Salinger, who was a recluse in New Hampshire until he passed away in 2010 at the age of 91, was very protective of his personal life, even going so far as to file a suit to block a publication of a biography about him based on his personal letters.

We're a big fan of "Catcher in the Rye," but we aren't sure if we had $50,000 lying around we'd spend it on a note J.D. Salinger wrote to his maid. What do you think, readers?
