Jeb Bush 2016? George W. Bush's brother may run for president
The New York Times reports Al Cardenas, one of Bush's advisers, says of the former governor, "It continues to intrigue him, given how much he has to share with the country."
Marco Rubio, who has been touted to run in 2016, would likely be out of the race before it begins if Bush were to run. Rubio considers Bush a mentor, and a run against him would almost surely create a feud with the republican party.
Bush is said to represent a certain nostalgia for the era of his father, George H.W. Bush. He also is not linked to extremist conservative groups, and strategists say his perspectives differ from those of fellow Republican Mitt Romney, who was defeated in the 2012 election.
The younger Bush would reportedly continue his brother's second term agenda of making a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants who are otherwise law-abiding. Far right conservatives have protested that idea, labeling it "amnesty."
The father of George P. Bush, who has filed papers to run for office in Texas, Jeb speaks Spanish and is married to Columba Bush, a native of Mexico.
