'The View': Jenny McCarthy jokes and Sherri Shepherd cries confirming their exits

Fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg was the member of the group to bring up the "giant neon pink gorilla in the room." McCarthy spoke up first, joking with the crowd that the rumors were untrue and she and Shepherd would be returning. The newest "View" host, who joined the group in September 2013, then came clean, saying, "Let me tell you what is going on. I am so grateful to have worked with Barbara Walters in her last year, along with many producers and co-hosts. Upon consideration, I took a new job which allows me to do what I do best, which is talk without interrupting anyone."

Shepherd was more emotional when it is was her turn: "A lot of producers have known since the spring that I didn't intend to return after my contract ends in August," she said, fighting back tears. "You know I'm a woman of faith, and seven is the number of God's completion. I've been here seven years, and my time with 'The View' is complete. I'm going to forever be grateful to Barbara Walters and [executive producer] Bill Geddie for taking a chance on an actress and making me learn things, helping me step out of my comfort zone. They gave me a chance."

Expressing the gratitude for the people they have met on their "View" journey proved to be almost too much for Shepherd. She couldn't fight back the tears any longer when discussing her future. "I have plans, and I plan to come back to promote the work. Step out, do something that makes you scared. I was scared to do 'The View.' I love the cast and crew. They made me feel like this is my family," she sobbed, as McCarthy reached across the table to comfort her.

No doubt this is most likely the first of many emotional moments for the ladies before their August 2014 departure.
