Trebek, 73, has hosted 6,829 episodes spanning 30 years of the long-running game show. Since the daily syndicated version premiered in 1984, Trebek is the only host it has had, save for one episode when Pat Sajak hosted as an April Fool's joke (Trebek hosted "Wheel of Fortune" that day as well).

"It's an honor to hold the Guinness World Record for hosting 'Jeopardy!', which I've often say is the best of reality TV," says Trebek in a statement. "We have had incredible support from our viewers for the past 30 years, and without them, I wouldn't have set this record."

A ceremony for his world record took place during the taping of Friday's show, we'll add video of the ceremony as soon as we have it.

"Jeopardy!'s" 30th season kicks off with new episode on Aug. 1. Trebek is expected to retire in 2016.
