Jerry Seinfeld not bothered by 'Marriage Ref' divorce beef
Howie Kohlenberg appeared with his then-wife, Christine, on the NBC show's first episode last year (Season 2 debuted on Sunday). The couple was hoping to get some free publicity for Manhattan spa, but instead, he says the show caused Christine to leave him and their 4-year-old son in search of fame.
"The people on the show were pumping us up, saying, 'You're going to wake up and be stars. You're going to be famous and make money,'" Kohlenberg tells the New York Post. "... I'm not saying our marriage was perfect, but it put it in a whole new direction. It was the nail in the coffin."
"Jerry, Mr. Billionaire, I blame. And his show," Kohlenberg says.
Seinfeld is brushing off the former contestant's complaint, though. "When people get upset I enjoy it," Seinfeld tells the New York Daily news. "That he's having problems, and blaming me, it's all -- anything that alleviates the withering, blithering boredom of existence I'm in favor of."
So, OK, if you're appearing on a show called "The Marriage Ref," maybe you shouldn't be surprise if the relationship goes south at some point. But Seinfeld's publicist initially declined to comment for the Post story, and we're thinking that might have been a good course of action for him to follow too. What do you think?
