Jerry Sloan, Utah Jazz head coach, surprises sports world with retirement
The 68-year-old coach signed a one-year extension with the team just a few days ago, and is the longest-tenured head coach in all four major sports. Joining him in retirement is also longtime assistant coach, Phil Johnson.
So what caused the sudden departure?
There's been no official confirmation, but following a tough loss to the Chicago Bulls on Wed., speculations have been made that Sloan had a less than friendly run-in with general manager, Kevin O'Connor.
Sloan has over 1,200 wins in his head coaching career, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009. He will be sorely missed not only in the NBA, but in professional sports in general.
