'Jersey Shore's' The Situation goes rogue, cuts solo deal for Season 3 [Update]
"Mike decided in order to get Season 3 done he was going to have to lead the pack," says The Situation's manager according to TMZ. "And he wants to encourage the rest of his cast to follow his lead."
As of Monday (July 19), the cast were expected to come to agreement with MTV by the end of the day. This solo deal is a bold move for Mike and totally breaks from the crew's usual M.O. of "Friends-like" bargaining. Could the news that MTV was auditioning for new cast members have influenced the ab-master? Or that some of the crew was going to be replaced in future seasons?
Or, could it be the super-secret sweet offer Mike has been working on which is rumored to place his per episode fee at anywhere between $27,500 and $45,000 per episode plus a bonus if ratings hit a certain level?
While the others are still fighting for $30,000 an episode for next season, Mike seems to be sitting pretty. That should make for some interesting drama when (and if) the cast starts shooting in Seaside Heights later this month for the second half of Season 2.
As per usual, MTV has declined to comment on the contract negotiations.
Advice to the rest of the cast: Don't hate the playa, hate the game.
[Update: Radaronline.com reports that Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, and DJ Pauly Delvecchio have all come to agreement with MTV in addition to Mike. Vinnie, Ronnie and Sammi are holding out, though a source says the network is ready to move on without them. Ouch.]
[Update 6:32 p.m. EST TMZ reports that everyone except Angelina Pivarnick have now signed on for Season 3 and the second half of Season 2 shooting can begin on time in late-July. ]
