It's a sad day for boy band fans -- JLS is over. The boy band found fame on "The X Factor" in the UK in 2008, two years ahead of One Direction. Though they didn't take first place on the show, the guys went on to sell more than 10 million records and release five No. 1 singles -- a feat 1D has yet to accomplish.

JLS has also snagged two Brit awards, five Mobo awards, and performed more headlining concerts in 2012 than any other British artist.

The band made the breakup announcement on their official website, writing, "It has been the most incredible journey over the last six years and we have achieved more things than we could have ever dreamed possible." Before the official end of JLS, they will release a "Greatest Hits" album and embark on their third arena tour.

As for the future, The Sun reports each of the guys has their own plans. Marvin Humes is expecting a child with wife Rochelle Humes of Saturdays fame. He also has a day job as a TV reporter and radio DJ. Oritse Williams has gone into music management, and Aston Merrygold and Jonathan "JB" Gill are both juggling rising TV careers.

JLS went home second place on "X Factor" and One Direction went home in third place.
