Joe Biden's first tweet: You down with OVP?

Vice President Joe Biden has a colorful history as an orator. The verbose politician has gotten into hot water on more than a few occasions for slips of the tongue. Naturally, we wish he'd have wound up on Twitter a long time ago.

But Biden unleashed his first tweet on the 4th of July, under the extremely awesome user name of @VP.

So what did he have to say? "VP & Dr. B hope you take time to think about our troops & military families this Independence Day, Happy 4th from OP!"

Patriotic and well under 140 characters... well played. And don't expect anything more scandalous. The AP reports that Biden's tweets, like so many politicians', will be staff-written.

As of noon on July 5, the Office of the Vice President has just over 15,000 followers. He has a long way to go to reach the Obama campaign's wild total of 8,969,945.
