John Cusack presents Peter Gabriel with a boombox during 'In Your Eyes' performance
It's been 23 years, but we still remember John Cusack best as a heartsick boy standing in front of his girlfriend's window serenading her with a boombox held over his head. Fortunately, he apparently loves that iconic image as well.
Cusack made a surprise appearance at Peter Gabriel's Hollywood Bowl concert in Los Angeles on Saturday during the musician's performance of "In Your Eyes." Appropriately, Cusack came out on stage holding a boombox and then passed it off to Gabriel, who held is above his head while the audience cheered, USA Today reports. Cusack then took his exit and went on to watch the concert.
"In Your Eyes" is the song that Cusack's Lloyd Dobler played in "Say Anything" to win back his love, Ione Skye's Diane Court. The song has been connected to the movie ever since.
To make the "Say Anything" reunion complete, director Cameron Crowe was also in the audience watching the concert. He took to Twitter following the performance to express his awe at witnessing that moment.
"Peter Gabriel and John Cusack on stage together at the Hollywood Bowl tonight. Won't forget that... ever," he tweets.
Cusack also shared his thoughts after the concert, tweeting, "give a re-isten to his body of work- seeing gabriel live again made me rember how inspiring &transcendent -filled with passion and thought."
