John Edwards denies hiring prostitute

john-edwards-gi.jpgFormer North Carolina senator and presidential candidate John Edwards is denying reports that he slept with a prostitute in 2007.

DNAInfo.com reports on Thursday (March 22) that Edwards had sex with one of the call girls employed by the recently arrested "Soccer Mom Madam" Anna Gristina. The publication says that the tryst happened while Edwards was fund raising for his 2008 presidential run.

A source tells the publication, "Most of the women don't have any idea about the identities of the men they sleep with. How would they know a money man from Wall Street or the face of a lawyer or banker who shows up. But the face of the national politician? She knew."

A lawyer for Edwards disputes the report, telling the N.Y. Times, "Mr. Edwards categorically denies that he was involved with any prostitute or service."

This is not the first time that Edwards has been caught up in a sex scandal. In 2008 Edwards admitted to an extended affair with campaign staffer Rielle Hunter while his wife was suffering from breast cancer. This relationship produced a child.

Edwards was indicted in June 2011 and charged with using more than $1 million in campaign funds to conceal that affair. The trial was scheduled to begin in Jan. 2012, but it was delayed after Edwards underwent heart surgery.
