John Mayer sings 'Fifty Shades of Grey' to seduce woman and fails

john-mayer-hat-montana-jimmy-fallon.jpg John Mayer's new album, "Born and Raised," is fantastic -- and well worth the wait that resulted from Mayer's throat condition and subsequent surgeries.

His subdued appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show had us convinced that Mayer had settled down and become a grown up during his two-year absence from the Hollywood scene. We were wrong. With Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, Mayer proved that you can take the boy out of Los Angeles... but if the boy is John Mayer, that doesn't matter much.

Mayer tells Fallon that when he noticed that a woman he was interested in was reading the erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey," he figured he could capitalize on Christian Grey's appeal.

"I was trying to impress her, and she had it on her Kindle," he says. "And so I said, 'I'm going to sing it to you.' So I sang her one of the pages of 'Fifty Shades of Grey.'"

It didn't go well. "She fell to the ground, laughing," he adds. "I think that was the only way I could make her laugh. She didn't really get it though. I'm not singing for a year and I just sang you '50 Shades of Grey.'"

On the subject of guilty pleasures, Mayer admits that he's a big fan of ABC's "The Bachelor" -- but that he'd never go looking for love on the show. "I would waste their time taking a meeting, just so I could hear more about it," he jokes. "Ultimately, I'd say no. But I would just have to take the meeting."
