John Oliver's 'Last Week Tonight' destroys America's prisons as 'fundamentally broken'Add to Favorites | Last Week Tonight With John Oliver
John Oliver continues to use his podium on HBO's "Last Week Tonight" to point a finger at problems he sees in America and the world. In his July 20 episode, Oliver takes down America's prison systems in an epic 17-minute bit that concludes in a "Sesame Street" song.
Like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert before him, Oliver uses comedy to highlight some pretty glaring instances of neglect and malpractice in the American government. Will this segment, which has been viewed close to 1 million times at press time, make a difference in our prison systems? Maybe, but it's certainly made an impact since it aired on HBO and then was posted to YouTube.
"Last Week Tonight" airs Sundays at 11 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
