John Travolta apologizes for Idina Menzel's 'Adele Dazeem' name flub ... by ripping off Jimmy Fallon's monologue joke?

One of the most memorable moments from the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday (March 2) wasn't from an acceptance speech, or a red carpet wardrobe malfunction, or even a surprise winner. All anyone is talking about -- and all the internet is joking about -- after the 2014 Oscars is just how horribly John Travolta butchered Idina Menzel's name.

After introducing the "Let It Go" singer as "Adele Dazeem," it took days for Travolta to address his name flub. The actor finally apologized on Tuesday (March 4), but his apology sounds quite familiar.

"I've been beating myself up all day," Travolta says in a statement to ABC. "Then I thought ... what would Idina Menzel say? She'd say, 'Let it go, let it go!'"

That would have been a creative way to make up for his giant mistake, but it's already been said ... by Jimmy Fallon. "He could tell as he was saying it, 'This is not going to come out right at all -- I'm gonna say sounds,'" Fallon joked during his monologue on Monday (March 3). "When Idina Menzel heard that, she was like, 'Let it go. Let it go. Let it go.'"

At least Travolta spiced up his apology with some flattery, too. "Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy 'Frozen' took home two Oscars Sunday night!" Travolta says.
