johnny-lewis-sons-of-anarchy-half-sack.jpgNews broke Thursday (Sept. 27) that actor Johnny Lewis, who played Kip "Half-Sack" Epps on "Sons of Anarchy," has died under rather strange circumstances in the Los Angeles area. He was found in the driveway of a home and inside was an older lady who was also deceased. Police suspected Lewis in the death of the woman before he fell or jumped to his death from the roof of the house.

Now law enforcement sources tell TMZ that Lewis had been released from jail just six days prior to his death, with several criminal charges filed against him, though the details of the charges are being withheld at this time. The actor was also recently in rehab.

In another sad detail, the 81-year-old woman, believed to be Lewis' landlady, also had a cat that was found dead at the scene and the home was ransacked. Lewis is also suspected in the death of the cat.

The police believe Lewis was either on PCP or meth at the time of the crimes. Two witnesses who fought with Lewis before he climbed onto the roof say he was exhibiting "superhuman" strength.

Kurt Sutter, creator of "Sons of Anarchy," has released a statement:

not sure if folks know this yet, but johnny lewis (halfsack) died last night. the sad irony of it happening two days after opie's death is not lost on me. it was a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way. i wish i could say that i was shocked by the events last night, but i was not. i am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path. yes, it's day or mourning, but it's also a day of awareness and gratitude. sadly, some of us carry the message by dying.

A sad incident all around.
