Jon Stewart's directorial debut "Rosewater" just premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will make its way to Telluride and Toronto before making it's theater release in November. However, fans can get a taste of "The Daily Show" hosts passion project -- which he wrote and directed -- with the trailer released today (Aug. 28).

"Rosewater" is the true story of Iranian-born Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari who was imprisoned in Iran for espionage for 118 days while covering the 2009 elections for Newsweek. During his imprisonment Bahari was tortured based on "proof" from his Facebook page and an appearance on -- you guessed it -- "The Daily Show," proving that he was a spy.

Gael Garcia Bernal plays the hostage journalist who uses hope and his belief in freedom to get him through the traumatizing ordeal.

"Rosewater" opens in theaters on Nov. 7.
