Joni Ernst's GOP Senate hog-castration ad gets 'Colbert Report,' 'The Soup' and more late-night attentionAdd to Favorites | The Colbert Report
In case you're not up on your Iowa political goings-on, long-time U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) is retiring, so his seat is up for grabs in the 2014 midterm election.
Rep. Bruce Braley is the only Democrat vying for Harkin's seat, but there is a wide field of Republicans who will face off in a primary election in June. One of these candidates is Joni Ernst, whose political ad released this week says her experience growing up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm means she's ready to go to Washington D.C., cut "pork" and make the big spenders "squeal."
This has, naturally, garnered quite the attention from the late-night hosts. Below, watch as Ernst's ad is featured on "The Tonight Show," "The Colbert Report," "@Midnight" and "The Soup."
Jimmy Fallon: "I don't know what she's running for but just give her the job."
Stephen Colbert: "Running on a platform everyone can get behind -- sold! Joni, you had me at 'castration.' Folks, it does not matter what else she stands for. I'm pulling for her whole-hog, or whatever is left of the hog when she's done with it."
Mike Lawrence: "I'll win this election when pigs die!"
Tony Hale: "Vote for me, I grew up rubbing gasoline into the eyes of bunnies!"
Ernst already has Sarah Palin's and Mitt Romney's endorsement, so perhaps we can look forward to more of these ads when she wins the primary and turns toward the general election.
