Joseph Gordon-Levitt in talks for 'Dark Knight Rises' - who should he play?

joseph-gordon-levitt-getty.jpgDeadline is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to join "The Dark Knight Rises," helmed by his "Inception" director Christopher Nolan. There is no word as to which part JGL will have, but he is reportedly joining the cast in time for the production to start in the spring.

This has our wheels churning about which part from the Batman canon JGL could play. Nolan has said they are not going to resurrect the Joker after Heath Ledger's untimely passing. But there's another Batman villain we've always really liked that JGL might be perfect for -- Edward Nigma, a.k.a. the Riddler.

The way Nolan's reboot of the Batman franchise is going, we think a darker turn on the Riddler could be really interesting. Frank Gorshin is our fave and we think Jim Carrey was actually pretty entertaining in his turn as the iconic villain, but we'd love to see what Nolan and JGL do with it.

If not the Riddler -- JGL's slighter build really lends itself to Robin, but we aren't sure we want the franchise to go back that way. Maybe he'll be a new character we aren't yet familiar with.

If true, JGL is the second "Inception" alum to join the movie, as Nolan recently announced Tom Hardy as Bane, along with Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman and Robin Williams as Dr. Hugo Strange.

What part do you guys think JGL should play?
