Josh Gad to co-star in Billy Crystal FX pilot 'The Comedians'

"1600 Penn" star Josh Gad has been tapped to star opposite Crystal in the comedy pilot, Deadline reports. The comedy, based on a Swedish format of the same name,  centers on a young, hip comic on the rise (Gad), who is forced to work with an aging superstar comedian (Crystal) on a late-night comedy sketch show -- though both hate it, and each other.

Zap2It caught up with Crystal in mid-June, where he shared his thoughts on his potential return to TV after nearly 30 years. "When I saw it I thought, 'I could really like doing this,'" he said. "I'm going to play myself; it's a chance to do live sketches, it's a chance to act, it's a chance to improvise. And when we land the other actor -- who's going to be a really good, strong name as well, and a talented person -- we're going to have really something special. So I thought ... 'I would like to do that.'"

Matt Nix ("Burn Notice"), Ben Wexler ("Arrested Development") and Larry Charles ("Seinfeld") will serve as writers/executive producers on the pilot, alongside Crystal, with Charles set to direct. Gad has signed on as producer, as well.

Do you think Gad will make a good co-lead with Crystal on "The Comedians"?
