Joss Whedon and Marvel head Kevin Feige on 'The Avengers' post-credit scene

avengers-tom-hiddleston-disney.jpgAttention, those of you who haven't seen "Marvel's The Avengers" yet. This is a major spoiler! Big, giant spoiler. Turn back now! You have been warned.

Okay. You're still here. You've seen the film and which character, or "big bad" in honor of writer/director/geek god Joss Whedon is revealed in the after-credits sequence. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, this was all Joss' idea.

Thanos was revealed to be the mastermind behind Loki ( Tom Hiddleston) and his destruction of Earth. Marvel fans went wild when this was revealed, as Thanos is one of the biggest enemies in the comic universe. Hard core fans might even have noticed his Infinity Gauntlet was seen in Odin's trophy room in "Thor."

Feige tells /Film that the entire thing was Joss' idea. He says, "I wanted to get cosmic and did with THOR and told him that we wanted it to be aliens, that a portal opens in New York and aliens poor out, because the cosmic cube opened a portal. Who they were, what they were, and how they interacted was all Joss and Joss is a huge fan of Thanos."

Ooh, this is going to mean big things for the inevitable sequel. Whedon tells the site, "He [Thanos] for me is the most powerful and fascinating Marvel villain. He's the great grand daddy of the badasses and he's in love with death and I just think that's so cute." Yes, Joss Whedon thinks being in love with death is ... cute. Joss, you are cute!
