The pair will play bickering young prodigies Agent Gemma Simmons and Agent Leo Fitz -- a.k.a. "FitzSimmons" according to the series' casting breakdown. They join a growing ensemble that already boasts "ER" vet Ming-Na Wen and Clark Gregg, who reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from various Marvel movies including "The Avengers."

"S.H.I.E.L.D.," which is set up at ABC Studios, will tell stories from the same universe as Marvel's blockbuster films but specifics about the series are being closely guarded. "Avengers" director Whedon will also direct the pilot, which he co-wrote with brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen.

Scottish born De Caestecker was a series regular on BBC America's "The Fades," while the Sheffield-raised Henstridge appeared on popular British soap "Hollyoaks" and had a starring role in J.J. Abrams' CW pilot "Shelter" which was not picked up to series. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
