Joy Behar: Ann Romney 'is a lovely person,' but Behar would like to get Mitt Romney on 'The View'
Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, appeared on "The View" Thursday (Oct. 18) -- and the largely left-leaning panel did not ask her questions about cooking or the last good book she read. They asked her questions about the military, abortion, contraception and stem-cell research.
Fox News took umbrage with the line of questioning, wondering why President and Mrs. Obama received "softball" questions when they appeared on the show last month -- though Elisabeth Hasselbeck did ask the President about his administration "failing the middle class" and the panel asked him about the Libyan embassy attack.
Joy Behar addresses Ann's appearance on "The View" on her own show later in the day, particularly Ann Romney choosing to side-step a question about contraception by telling Joy she'd love it if Joy would "get her husband on the couch."
Behar says she'd love to get Mitt Romney on "The View," but he backed out due to "scheduling conflicts."
"I predicted, by the way, that he would not come on," says Behar. "It's not a winning proposition for him, to expose himself to women out there who really want to hear from him."
"I actually disagree," says political columnist Sophia Nelson. "I think it's a very foolish move on his part, on the campaign's part. I think if you want to be Commander in Chief and President of the United States, women are more than 50% of the population, women are more than 50% of the workforce. You need to face women and 'The View' is the woman show, in my opinion, that you go on and you take your grilling and you face it like a man."
"And if he's going to continue to duck whether he's for equal pay and equal work and these things, that's a problem," Nelson continues. "And I think the Obama campaign is doing a major disservice by not talking about that."
"[Ann Romney] was lovely, by the way, if you're interested in knowing my perceptions of her," Behar concludes. "She's a lovely person, very tall, pretty, she's pretty. And that's it, I have nothing else to say about her."
