Julia Louis-Dreyfus heads to HBO; Paula Abdul launches casting website

julia-louis-getty.jpg Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been tapped to star in HBO's comedy pilot "Veep," from Armando Iannucci, a British comedian. "The New Adventures of Old Christine" star will play Selina Meyer, a former senator who becomes Vice President. Louis-Dreyfus will also serve as producer. [ Deadline]

Paula Abdul has launched AuditionBooth.com, a website that connects up and coming stars with directors, producers and managers. Abdul says, "I've spent so much time throughout my career nurturing great talent, some of whom have realized their dreams and some of whom haven't been as lucky.The fact is though that in some cases the only difference has been opportunity -- that is what AuditionBooth is about -- the opportunity." FOX's "Locke & Key" has found its leading lady: "The Lord of the Rings'" Miranda Otto. The drama pilot follows Nina Locke (Otto) and her three children "who survive an unspeakable horror and attempt to rebuild their lives at Keyhouse, their family home in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. It is a mysterious New England mansion, with fantastic and transformative keys hidden inside its walls that are also being sought by a hate-filled and relentless creature with ties to the Locke family's past who will stop at nothing to accomplish his sinister goals." "Locke & Key" is from uber-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and was written by Josh Friedman, creator of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." [ Deadline]

Apparently there is life after death for "True Blood's" evil vamp Lorena, Mariana Klaveno. The actress has booked a guest spot on CBS' spinoff "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior." Klaveno will play Veronica, "a spotlight-hungry hellraiser who excels at manipulating the opposite sex." [ Movieline]

ABC Family has acquired the rights to air the final two "Harry Potter" films on their network. Tom Zappala, executive vice president of acquisitions and scheduling for ABC Networks, says "Our viewers have come to know ABC Family as the television destination for the "Harry Potter" films. They're enormously beloved by our audience and the world over." Part 1 of the finale is expected to hit the small screen in the Spring 2013. [ TV Guide]
