justin-bieber-pattie-mallette.jpg Justin Bieber's mom Pattie Mallette stopped by "The View" Wednesday (July 10) to promote her book, but the hosts of course had to inquire as to her son's behavior the past few months -- but Mallette kind of skirts the issue.

"When he turned 18, he wanted some space ... I think that all parents worry about their kids. I don't necessarily agree with everything that he does. He knows the things -- we talk. We talk about things. ... I'm also super proud of him, a lot of things he does that don't make the headlines everyday," says Pattie.

"Some of the things we talk about, obviously I have to keep between him and I ... I try to encourage him to stay true to who he is and stay grounded and humble. I just always encourage him and say, 'You've always had to learn the hard way, but you'll get there and I believe in you.' And I have to keep believing that he'll come out on top."

As for his on-again, off-again relationship with Selena Gomez, Pattie says that whether they are together "depends on what day it is."
