A French journalist was exposed to some public shaming by Justin Timberlake for being seemingly unaware that the musician-turned-actor has finally returned to music.
Timberlake was giving an interview to a group of journalists at the Cannes Film Festival in promotion of his upcoming Coen brothers film, "Inside Llewyn Davis." The Nice, France-based reporter boldly called out Timberlake on sacrificing his successful music career for the sake of acting.
According to Vulture, the hapless reporter starts with, "You have nothing to prove anymore in music, Justin. But I have a feeling that you are making some sacrifice in music just because you are so focused right now on your acting."
An "incredulous" Timberlake retorts, "I just put a record out, man." Then actress Carey Mulligan, who joined Timberlake for the press roundtable, chimes in, "He put out two." Timberlake, apparently not ready to let the journo off the hook piles on: "I put out a record that has a second part. That comes out this fall. Where have you been?"
He then amps things up a notch, saying, "You gotta get out of Cannes, man. You gotta get out of Nice. You gotta get off your little island, man. As a matter of fact, I'm insulted. It's very pretentious."
JT smiled and reportedly gave the guy a little squeeze on the arm to indicate his playful intention, but the reporter didn't quite catch on, insisting that Timberlake was perhaps making a mistake by putting acting before singing. At that point Justin broke down his upcoming tour plans in support of the two-part album in question, "The 20/20 Project." When the reporter acknowledges Justin "didn't make too many bad choices," JT quickly corrects him: "There was a couple of ... girls."
Ah ... subtle Britney Spears slams never get old, do they Justin?
