Kardashian baby name explained: What does North 'Nori' West stand for?Add to Favorites | Keeping Up With the Kardashians
Since Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's baby's name isn't just an excuse to call it "North Bynorth West," there must be another reason for her to have earned a play-on-words moniker -- right? The secret behind the name North West seems to lie in the nickname Kardashian and West have reportedly chosen for their daughter: Nori.
As omg! points out, Kardashian's middle name is "Noel," while West's is "Omari." If you combine the first two letters of Noel with the last two letters of Omari, you end up with Nori. Could it be that simple? Maybe. It seems more likely that Kardashian and West would decide the baby's name to tie in with their own than just to shock the nation, because the name North West isn't much of a shock ultimately.
If anything, the name "North West" is surprising simply because Kardashian managed to keep it a secret for so long. She initially denied that "North" was an option on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," and later teased that she liked "Easton West" better. When reports came out on June 18 that the name actually was North West, a separate claim said it was Kaidance Donda West, which somehow seemed more believable. Only a copy of the birth certificate finally proved that "North West" was the baby's true name.
It remains to be seen if the idea for coming up with North as a name actually did stem from the fact that Kardashian and West wanted to use "Nori" as a nickname. We'll likely have to wait for a revealing "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" special to know for sure.
