Kate Hudson has 'no plans' to marry fiance Matt Bellamy any time soon
Kate Hudson and fiance Matt Bellamy are now the proud parents of son Bingham Hawn Bellamy, but the child was an unexpected surprise when Hudson got pregnant in 2010. The actress recalls learning the news in the May issue of Elle UK.
"It was all very old-fashioned and proper and we went on lovely dates, but two months later I was pregnant," she remembers. "Well, yes I was shocked, but I also thought: 'This is going to be interesting. I knew it would take a strong man to deal with it. You know that with a relationship things can go either way when you have a child."
Hudson and Bellamy went on to get engaged, and Bingham was born in July 2011. But the couple still hasn't tied the knot and isn't in a rush to do so. "We will get married. I do think it's important but we have no plans," Hudson says. She adds she was inspired by her mother Goldie Hawn's relationship with Kurt Russell, who she never legally married. "We were all together at home, Dad gave Mom a ring and said some beautiful words," Hudson recalls. "It was their own version of the ceremony and I remember it so well. It was like it was about us. The family was the glue."
As for her current status with Bellamy, Hudson admits she's impressed with how he handled their nontraditional relationship. "When you get pregnant everything changes; you, your body. Everything becomes a big decision, but he was there and that was that. Now it's three wonderful years later. Things happen for a reason," she says.
