If anyone has a lot to talk about, it's Katey Sagal. The actress shot to fame in 1987 as Peg Bundy on "Married ... with Children" and hasn't looked back since. She currently stars on two fan-favorite TV shows, "Sons of Anarchy" and "Futurama."
Katey spoke with reporters at Comic-Con 2013 about her shows, as well as one of the more challenging things she's had to do as an actress.
Sagal says Season 6 of "Sons of Anarchy" begins in a positive way for her character, Gemma. "She's pretty happy at the beginning of the season. She's got that new boyfriend of hers ( Jimmy Smits), and that's working out pretty fine for her."
As things normally go with the show though, everything can't be perfect. When Season 5 left off, Gemma was manipulated by her son Jax ( Charlie Hunnam) into helping frame Clay ( Ron Perlman) for murder. "She's resigned to what happened with Clay," Sagal says, "She's feeling conflicted but not regretful." Katey does say the two will have conversations as the season rolls on.
Gemma's relationship with Tara ( Maggie Siff) will remain a complicated one. The new season finds Tara imprisoned for conspiracy to commit murder, making Gemma the main female influence in Jax's life. Her main goal has always been to make sure that her son doesn't leaving their Charming, Cal. home. With the possibility of Tara being imprisoned, that makes Gemma's dream a possible reality.
Sagal says there is a definite change coming in Gemma's relationship with her oldest friend, the former Chief of Police Wayne Unser ( Dayton Callie). "She loves him, she will always love him," Katey says, "There will be a shift in that relationship, however." She adds that Tara will find an ally in Unser, but won't elaborate on what impact it has on her character's relationship with him.
When asked about the any challenges she's had on the show, which was created by her husband Kurt Sutter, Sagal was quick to note that the sex scenes were something she's had to adjust to. "I haven't done a lot of sex scenes, not that I'm doing any crazy sex scenes," she explains, "but crazier than I've ever done on camera." While "Sons of Anarchy" can't get as graphic on FX as some shows do on HBO, Gemma's still had some pretty steamy moments throughout the first five seasons.
The actress takes it all in stride, though. "You look for as many experiences to explore that you haven't done. I've had quite a few."
Katey also touched on the upcoming "Futurama"/"The Simpsons" crossover event. It was first announced during the Comic-Con panel for "The Simpsons" that the the voice sessions for the crossover will be recorded in August. The goal is to use the special episode as either the Season 25 finale or Season 26 premiere of "The Simpsons."
Sagal reveals that she only found out about the crossover right before walking out for "Futurama's" panel, which took place prior to "The Simpsons'." "I got a text from my agent that said, 'Oh, by the way ...,' and I said, 'Yeah, of course.'"
Unfortunately, Katey has no idea what the episode will be about just yet. While she immediately agreed to the project, she was given no details. "I don't know if they've written it yet. They probably haven't written it," she jokes.
"Futurama" will air its series finale September 4 on Comedy Central. "Sons of Anarchy" returns to FX September 10 at 10 p.m. ET.
