Katharine McPhee: Bye bye, blond?

Katharine-McPhee-American-Idol-Fox-Unbroken-320.jpgKatharine McPhee, the " American Idol" runner-up, probably wishes her sophomore album "Unbroken" got as much attention as her new blond frock. The former brunette was on Fox News today where she entertained changing the color - again!

"Red, definitely. I was actually thinking black," she says randomly. "Brown, blonde, black!"

Turns out going blond wasn't exactly a calculated move. "Just a crazy moment," says McPhee, 25. "You know, a young girl wants to change up her hair. What's wrong with that?"

We're OK with it, but it seems Katharine may be feeling a bit defensive. She explained what was going on when she made the change.

"I grew up in L.A. It was my town," says McPhee, who grew up in Sherman Oaks, Calif. "So, I sort of pulled myself out of it and took a year and a half for my record. So, I think just out of the new changes of my music, I had a little bit of a physical expression of it."

McPhee also talked about making the record in Nashville, gets a bit flustered when she's asked to intro her band and she performs "Keep Drivin'" from the new album.

Update: McPhee's age has been corrected.
