Katherine Heigl admits feeling 'angry' and 'betrayed' by Hollywood
Looking back now, the actress regrets limiting herself, "I had an amazing time. I love romantic comedies. I was so stoked to be doing them. But maybe I hit it a little too hard. I couldn't say no." Heigl tells Marie Claire UK. "I stopped challenging myself. It became a bit by rote and, as a creative person, that can wear you down."
Suddenly the "Knocked Up" star started feeling not so great about the town that had created her career. "This thing that was my best friend for a long time suddenly turned on me. And I didn't expect it. I was taken by surprise and angry at it for betraying me," she says.
Heigl then decided to "shut out all the noise" and retreat to a farm in Utah with her husband musician, Josh Kelley, and the couple's two young daughters for awhile.
Now rested and rejuvenated, Heigl is excited about returning to TV in "State of Affairs" on NBC this fall, not only as an actress, but also as a producer, "I can't wait to get into the writer's room and see how we do this. There's still a part of me that's a Hollywood animal as well."
Marie Claire's August 2014 issue is out now.
