Katherine Heigl is set to replace Halle Berry in Garry Marshall's upcoming rom-com  "New Year's Eve," which is set to start filming in New York this week. So what was the reasoning behind the sudden casting switch?

Berry dropped out of the flick in order  to make herself available for custody litigation. The actress and her ex Gabriel Aubry are going to court over custody of their two-year-old daughter Nahla. Not much is known about Berry's role in the film, but she was rumored to be playing a caterer. This wouldn't be the first time Heigl has played a caterer; She played one in her most recent film "Life As We Know It."

Heigl will reunite with several of her former on-screen leading men in the flick, including "Killers" co-star Ashton Kutcher and "Life As We Know It's" Josh Duhamel. Also starring in the film is a long list of actors including Jessica Biel, Zac Efron, Lea Michele, Robert De Niro, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jon Bon Jovi, Sofia Vergara, Seth Meyers, Hilary Swank, Abigail Breslin and Michelle Pfeiffer.
