Katherine Heigl wants back on TV, shopping drama series project
Heigl is attached to star in and produce a drama project from writer Alexi Hawley ("Castle"). The potential series has drawn interest from NBC and other networks, USA Today reports.
Heigl departed "Grey's" midway through its sixth season, saying at the time she wanted to spend more time with her adopted daughter, Naleigh. (Heigl and husband Josh Kelley have since adopted a second girl, Adelaide.) Her break from the show was fraught stay-or-go speculation, which she finally confirmed a couple of months after her last appearance aired.
There was also controversy over her decision in 2008 not to submit herself for Emmy consideration. She said at the time she felt the material she'd been given to play was not up to snuff, which "Grey's" creator Shonda Rhimes later said "stung" her.
Last year, Heigl expressed interest in returning to the show, but Rhimes declined.
Few details about the new drama project are known at the moment. Hawley's TV experience is all on crime shows -- in addition to "Castle" he has worked on "Body of Proof" and "The Unusuals."
