Katy Perry to close VMAs 2013 with special 'Roar' performance
Katy Perry has been announced as the closer for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. According to an MTV press release, she'll perform her new single "Roar" during a "special finale performance" from an undisclosed location in Brooklyn.
In addition to seeing Perry perform, fans will also have a chance to listen to some of her new music. The VMAs are implementing a "tweet-to-unlock and social voting program" that allows people to listen to two samples from Perry's upcoming album "PRISM." The record is due out Oct. 22.
The 2013 VMAs air live on MTV on Aug. 25 starting at 9 p.m. ET. Hopefully Perry will walk the carpet with boyfriend John Mayer, whose new album "Paradise Valley" came out on Aug. 20.
"Something VERY special is happening at midnight EST tonight on iTunes!" Perry tweeted prior to "Paradise Valley's" release. "My incredible, inspiring boyfriend John Mayer will release a spectacular record called Paradise Valley check it out here." The pair recently collaborated on the duet "Who You Love."
