Kelsey Grammer talks political aspirations, love life on 'The Tonight Show'
Kelsey Grammer, 56, stopped by "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" Wednesday night (Nov. 9), where he spoke at length about his current wife Kayte Walsh, 30, and also his potential political aspirations.
"She's 26 years younger than I am, but that doesn't feel bad. It feels good," says Grammer, of Walsh. "She does call me 'Pop,' so that's interesting. But it's not for the reason you think." He goes on to tell a story about making popcorn at home.
As for how they met, Grammer says, "Kayte was a flight attendant with Virgin Atlantic ... I was walking through LAX and I spotted this beautiful blonde and I thought, 'Boy, I hope she's on my flight' and as it turns out she was."
He then tells a very romantic story about their first date. Awww.
And finally, he talks abotu politics, since he is playing a politician on the new Starz show "Boss."
"I always had this notion ... I thought [politics] would be the way I could give back," says Grammer.
Leno mentions that Grammer is one of the few Republicans in Hollywood.
"I know that there's a lot of nuts on both sides of the equation. Most of the people that align them selves with one set of people or the other are pretty reasonable, honestly. To resist big spending and too much spending by your government is probably a thoughtful idea, probably reasonable to talk about," says Grammer.
But as far as social issues of the conservatives, Grammer says, "Nobody belongs in our bedroom, no party, certainly."
"Unless you want a party in your bedroom," he quips.
"The way to actually get elected is to basically make you hate the other side ... Class warfare is where you're going to go when you haven't done the job you said you were going to do," he finishes.
