Kentucky Derby 2014: California Chrome wins at Churchill Downs

The odds-on favorite going into the race, California Chrome stayed near or at the front of the pack throughout the two-minute race. He broke away near the end of the race, ending up several lengths ahead of the nearest competition.

It was a big win for jockey Espinoza as well -- now a two-time Derby winner. Another record fell with California Chrome's win thanks to trainer Art Sherman now being the oldest winning trainer at the age of 77.

The top four horses were:

1. California Chrome
2. Commanding Curve
3. Danza
4. Wicked Strong

Steve Coburn owns the horse, the foal of two "bargain" parents -- California Chrome's mare cost $8000, while the horse daddy was only $2500. Top racehorses go for orders of magnitude more than that typically.
