Kim Kardashian's swimsuit selfie was 'big middle finger' to pregnancy weight critics

Remember that recent swimsuit selfie Kim Kardashian shared a few weeks back? The attention-starved reality star claims it was all meant as a giant kiss-off to the nasty ol' meanies who snarked on her weight while pregnant.

Kardashian appeared on "The Tonight Show" on Wednesday (Oct. 30), where she lamented the nasty press she endured after gaining 50 pounds while pregnant with newborn North West.

"It really changed me a lot," she cried. "It really did affect me, for me to act like it didn't ... It really hurt my soul.

"I was gaining weight because I was pregnant and it was just really hard to read all these stories and hear all these nasty things," the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star continued. As for why she remained out of the spotlight post-birth, it wasn't because she was hoping to make a big commotion when she appeared newly slimmed down -- oh, no. It's because she's a newly private person now that she's a mom.

"I just don't need that energy. I'd rather be in a happy place when I'm home ... I definitely try to live more of a private life because of, because they were so nasty," she swears. "It's like, why even go out as much just to put yourself in that position?" This came, it must be noted, in the very same interview where Kardashian also touted her good fortune to be filming Season 9 of her hit (and apparently, non-invasive) reality show.

As for that sultry semi-nude selfie, that wasn't for attention, either. It was a simply a jab back at her bullies. After taking it, she sent it to new fiance Kanye West for advice. "I was like 'Babe, can I post this up? This is like my big middle finger to the world on everyone that called me fat,'" she revealed. Clearly, West was on board.
