Kristen Stewart to star in indies 'Camp X-Ray,' 'Sils Maria'

Deadline reports
Stewart has signed to star in two indie films shooting this summer: "Camp X-Ray," the feature directorial debut of Peter Sattler, and "Sils Maria," from acclaimed French filmmaker Olivier Assayas ("Carlos").

"X-Ray" casts Stewart as a US soldier sent to Guantanamo who befriends a young prisoner.

"Maria" will see Stewart take on the part of an assistant to a movie star ( Juliette Binoche) who becomes jealous of a younger actress ( Chloe Moretz) playing a role the star once played.

Before "Twilight" made her a household name, Stewart starred in numerous indie films including 2004's "Undertow" directed by David Gordon Green, an executive producer on "X-Ray." Even as "Twilight" took off, Stewart continued alternating filming the franchise movies with indie projects including 2010's "The Runaways" and last year's "On the Road."

Stewart isn't turning her back on blockbusters completely, as she's still set to star in a sequel to last year's "Snow White and the Huntsman."
